Belief's are one thing, behavior is another. What we are reflecting on is behavior, not anyone's right to believe. When I look at "the old books" of nearly, every, religion, I hear the voice of the men (because its almost always males) writing as though they heard the voice (voices?) of God. It's more of a chorus of the rulings of those long ago centuries, rather then the mind that created the universe(s). Those voices are fascinating and worth reading, but obeying is a different story. The temporary condition of life lends itself to desperation, and religion is often, one attempt, to deal with it. If, into our hands, the Almighty (?) places a means of resolving this dilemma, then perhaps, it is what we should do. In our own age, old men promising young men, endless dealings with young dancing girls (houaris) is likely, something they cannot deliver to these young men, or even to themselves. Even though, they assure everyone that that promise is the ineffable word of God.
Being a scientific and technically, oriented, mailing list, we all might consider putting some effort into this goal/concept, once in a while. That, of course is just my p-o-v, and trying to tackle the impossible can take the wind out of one's sales, but we have argued about equally trying subjects before and somehow survived to write another day. -----Original Message----- From: Richard Ruquist <[email protected]> To: everything-list <[email protected]> Sent: Fri, May 30, 2014 10:04 am Subject: Re: Pluto bounces back! You, on the outside, are horrified by such acts in the name of Islam, and are terrified of it, rightly so. We, on the other hand, live in midst of this blatant violation of the guidance in the Quran! What these elements have not been able to find or insert in the Quran, they have created Some of the people involved are priests, and some are students of Islam - do you think that these are people who are committing crimes in the name of religion? Again this is a straight question, I'm not drawing any conclusions at the moment. What's wrong is wrong. They may think they're doing right and may feel it to be their pious duty, however it is still wrong. How God will judge them is another matter, let God do that. However, it is important to speak up and point out that it's incorrect and inhumane. Please also bear in mind that all religions have suffered the tragedy of deviation from the original message, misunderstood and convoluted it into something terrible. Exactly. And why is that? Isn't it because religions derive their dogma from divine revelations which cannot be discarded, only "interpreted". What religion ever praised the will to find out instead of the will to believe? ALQURAN CH3:191 Those who remember Allah standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides, and think deeply about the creation of the heavens and the earth,"Our Lord! You have not created this without purpose, glory to You! Give us salvation from the torment of the Fire. You can find many verses in the Quran which exhort us to think and use our intelligence. And if you followed that advice you'd stop believing you can learn morals from an imaginary despot. Brent Morals are inbuilt. People all over the globe generally consider lying, cheating, stealing, killing, etc as wrong. However, there are certain situations where some of us are inclined to leniency while others demand strict action. With our limited understanding of certain situations, we cannot know which response is the correct approach to the wrong / crime / injustice. Therefore, the divine guidance to instruct us in handling such matters. Witnessing the wondrous world around and within, the fine details with which everything has been created, and is being sustained, I am simply in awe and gratitude for everything to God. Immanent and transcendent, God is all-knowing, all-powerful, kind and loving. He created us, gave us life, hearing, sight, intelligence, family and society, and a user manual! Glad tidings and warnings about the certain to happen future are important information we need to prepare for our future. We can be grateful or we can throw a tantrum... And by means of the Quran, as well as the Old Testament, and indeed even in eastern Hindu scripture, god gave us both the privilege to be good and the privilege to commit war and other atrocious acts. It is up to Islam to pick and choose the good from the bad as needed over the course of history. The reason for God doing both is that so-called "bad people" are often useful, especially in the beginning of a religion. But then the mature religion must get them under control and become peaceful. Islam is to some extent failing that obligation so far. I suggest that more attention be paid to the prophets in the Quran, and the OT, and less to < >'s personal channel.
