Don't rule out the Outlook client--it does calendaring and contacts better.
Also, don't rule out OWA.

I appreciate all the input provided, including the ranting. I too am
interested in conquering the AD connectivity problems and will participate
as much as possible.

FWIW, my client is an organization with 10 macs and one PC, plus the server.
Our decision to chose SBS2003 was for calendar/contact sharing.

But hey, what's a few computers without some challenges?
