I'd try a few things.
1. Reinstall the BE agent, making sure it's the same version as the server
product (I've seen updates that get this mismatched).
2. Go through and recreate your backup selection list for the server. Check
to make sure shadow copy components is unchecked (Veritas has a technote out
about this; I don't recall it offhand...) and that the correct items have
been selected and the correct method (full) and source and destination
locations are correct.
3. Crank up the logging on BE.
4. Do a backup to disk if you have space to isolate a tape write problem
from a network problem - streaming large files can be a problem for some
tape drives. I've seen driver/firmware updates double the tape speed, and
the old drivers were "working fine a few days ago".
5. Have you stopped and restarted the store since the mailbox moves?
6. Look at your transaction logs. Is circular logging on or off? When moving
mailboxes, if circular logging is on, your transaction logs will increase in
size exponentially (I found that they would fill my disk if I moved too many
at once without a backup in between; I turned off circular logging for the
moves). Your logs might be as big as your DB (or bigger). If you turn off
circular logging for the mailbox moves, stop and restart the store.

See if any of that helps, especially #6...
