I didn't want to leave this hanging, but I was planning on giving my
Exchange server a kick tonight to see if I could get the Remote Agent to
start playing. When I got in today, I saw that last nights backup ran in
just over an hour (21.5 gig's), no changes have been made to any server....
I moved the rest of our 5.5 users to our 2K3 server tonight, the backup is
running right now and getting ~ 473 MB/Min through put.
I will just put this up as option #1; It just gets that way. I would love
to know why this happened, and why it stopped, but off to more important
things like ISA2K4 and OWA.
Thanks for all the pointers.
Jeff

On #1; Backup Exec can be that way. :-)
On #4; just because your tape is streaming OK on other servers doesn't mean
it will work as well with exchange. The data file sizes can play havoc with
the streaming. I do backups to disk and then copy jobs to tape. Goes much
faster and the local disk-to-tape streaming is much more efficient. You need
DAS with adequate capacity, though. My 15 gig IS streams to disk in a little
less than 2 hours, and the DAS write to tape takes about the same. Restore
from the disk file is MUCH faster, though.
On #6; CL is DISabled? I made a mistake in my previous post; CL should be
ENABLED during the moves, not DISabled. Disabling CL keeps all the logs
until a backup is performed; that's where a huge amount of logs will come
from. Check your logfile drive and see what's there...
I tend to perform moves with CL enabled, then disable CL, stop and restart
the store, and then perform a backup. Better recoverability.
