How about creating a fictional user 'MyHiddenList1' who's hidden and
forwards by rule to the secret members? Of course it wouldn't be practical
for a substantial number of users.
BTW, I keep getting stunned by how many ways Exchange 07 makes life more
difficult for us. The Exchange team seems to have gone positively out of
its way to make nearly every feature of the product horribly difficult or
impossible. Or, maybe it's just that they released the product a year or
two before it was finished. But that should be another thread, or am I the
only one?

Subject: Exchange 2007 and Hidden Distribution Lists
Since Exchange 2007 no longer has hidden distribution lists this causes a
problem for us. We have several thousand lists that the membership is hidden
due to FERPA concerns. But, we still want them displayed in the Outlook
Address Book.
A colleague suggested we put the DLs into a single OU. Then on that OU we
remove the permissions for Authenticated Users and add permission for our
Faculty group. This works by hiding the entry for the distribution lists in
the OU from the non-Faculty, but it puts a blank spot in the address book
where the entry should be for non-Faculty. If I could somehow tell the GAL
not to put the entries for the DLs in the restricted OU into the address
book that would be the ideal solution. I could then create a bunch of
"front-end" lists that are normal and appear in the address book, but each
have a single member consisting of the hidden DL in the restricted OU. So
does anyone have an idea of what can be done to tell the GAL to skip an
entire OU?

MyHiddenLists are in the '\All Groups\Distribution Lists\Hidden DLs' OU.
MyFrontEndLists are in the '\All Groups\Distribution Lists' OU.
