You can certainly outsource management of the current config.. depending on what is being used in the Sendmail setup (e.g. spamassassin or something more esoteric or homegrown) and the needs of your organization, this could be an easy outsource or not... You could also outsource management of the perimeter to a company which does hosted filtering. You might also look at the Windows version of Sendmail if the issue is *nix rather than sendmail expertise.
A basic spam assassin box isn't all that difficult to manage all things considered.
