Regarding #2, if you want to carry on a personal conversation with someone, then you don't post it to a discussion list. Not every participant herein can watch the list in real time and respond to personal queries. The nature of a discussion list is that everyone responds to anything if he or she can offer something.
Now, as to Mr. Ely's suggestions, you should reconsider your hostility to his "tough love" because he's right on the mark.
