I have been repeatedly harrassed after evalling a copy of Service Manager by
Lieberman Associates. I found their ad in MCP mag, and liked the product,
but I cna not get it through their heads that I don't make the purchase
decisions. I will not be giving valid contact info in the fitire because of
it.

Plus, if their product is so great, why does it allow people to use it past
the eval date???

His original tone might be out of frustration for lack of sales.

Or the frustration of piracy. I recommend Sophos deploy an activation
step...

At least this email is a little more cordial.... but I still don't
understand why I am responsible to respond to every piece of software I
evaluate. HMMM, I didn't know they gave out full versions of their
software without a timeout period......maybe I should reconsider
them...;)

..........................................

Thank you for your follow up Jonathan.

In fact you do have an professional obligation to respond to my numerous
inquiries via email and voicemail. Our records show that you downloaded
an evaluation copy of our software and did not contact us with the
status of the evaluation, therefore you could have been continuing to
use our software illegally.

I apologize if the tone of my email offended you, but as a software
vendor that makes it extremely easy for potential customers to evaluate
a full working version of our product, you can understand the abuses
that we have to avoid. A simple note or phone call to myself indicating
that you were not using our software illegally would have sufficed and
affirmed an acceptable level of professionalism. Please feel free to
contact me directly if any of this information is not clear.

Sincerely,
Justin

I think you just received some bad rouge sales email (I hope). We use
Sophos and it definitely works for us, but I was dealing with a small
US sales force at the time. Sophos has grown worldwide over the past
several years and I think some of these satellite offices might be
creating these "non-approved" emails. I can't imagine trying to make a
sale in one breath and then making a threat in an other. Maybe you need
to send the email to Sophos PLC (not Sophos Inc).

Perhaps CC his boss?

william, william, william......always the devil's advocate. The
software maybe ok,,,but the dude who emailed the trash would not be
making any commission off of me, I would at least find another vendor.

Why didn't you answer their emails?

"Thanks, I haven't installed it yet. I'll let you know."

Ha...did all that. If they were tracking it then they would know I am
not running it.

The product might be fine but their sales tactics blow...

Sounds like some trash talking to me. I'd be scanning my network and
looking at logs to see if they actually were "tracking" it. I'd also
send them a nasty-gram telling them to FSCK OFF due to the fact that
they sent me this lame a$$ email.

Hi Guys,

Has anyone else received similar email from vendors after you evaluated
their software. I was somewhat surprised at the tone...especially the
part about avoiding further legal action. I evaluated the software on a
test network and removed it when I found it didn't fit what I was
looking for. Is it my imagination or are sales guys getting really pushy
lately...sorry for the OT post, just had to rant.

Jonathan

Our records show that you downloaded an evaluation copy of our software
but have not returned any of our inquiries. If Sophos is an anti virus
package that you wish to evaluate please contact me for an extension, if
not please remove the software from your systems immediately to avoid
further legal action. Our software does have the ability to report
illegal/unlicensed use back to us.

Sincerely,
Justin
