Well at least they took ownership and apologized. -----Original Message----- From: Crouthamel, Jonathan [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, July 31, 2002 6:39 AM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: RE: Software Compliance OT
Obligation or not, I did finally get a decent apology from them. If the original guy from Sophos would have done this in the first place I wouldn't have gotten so ticked off.. Here it is.... ......................... Dear Mr Crouthamel, Thanks for your e-mail. Many apologies for any offence caused by Justin's e-mail. I can assure you that this matter will be investigated thoroughly by the relevant parties. Apologies again, Yours Sincerely, Esther Turrill ----- Forwarded by Esther Turril/Admin/UK/Sophos on 31/07/2002 10:04 ----- -----Original Message----- From: Garland Mac Neill [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, July 30, 2002 10:52 PM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: RE: Software Compliance OT Well I agree, but Obligation is a little much. -----Original Message----- From: William Lefkovics [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, July 30, 2002 8:44 PM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: RE: Software Compliance OT I think it would be a courtesy at least. -----Original Message----- From: Garland Mac Neill [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, July 30, 2002 7:38 PM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: RE: Software Compliance OT Professional Obligation? I like that one. Perhaps they should figure out to lock out their software for Demo purposes...... -----Original Message----- From: Crouthamel, Jonathan [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, July 30, 2002 3:34 PM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: RE: Software Compliance OT At least this email is a little more cordial.... but I still don't understand why I am responsible to respond to every piece of software I evaluate. HMMM, I didn't know they gave out full versions of their software without a timeout period......maybe I should reconsider them...;) ......................................... Thank you for your follow up Jonathan. In fact you do have an professional obligation to respond to my numerous inquiries via email and voicemail. Our records show that you downloaded an evaluation copy of our software and did not contact us with the status of the evaluation, therefore you could have been continuing to use our software illegally. I apologize if the tone of my email offended you, but as a software vendor that makes it extremely easy for potential customers to evaluate a full working version of our product, you can understand the abuses that we have to avoid. A simple note or phone call to myself indicating that you were not using our software illegally would have sufficed and affirmed an acceptable level of professionalism. Please feel free to contact me directly if any of this information is not clear. Sincerely, Justin -----Original Message----- From: Jim Sullivan [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, July 30, 2002 4:46 PM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: RE: Software Compliance OT I think you just received some bad rouge sales email (I hope). We use Sophos and it definitely works for us, but I was dealing with a small US sales force at the time. Sophos has grown worldwide over the past several years and I think some of these satellite offices might be creating these "non-approved" emails. I can't imagine trying to make a sale in one breath and then making a threat in an other. Maybe you need to send the email to Sophos PLC (not Sophos Inc). The software maybe ok,,,but the dude who emailed the trash would not be making any commission off of me, I would at least find another vendor. -----Original Message----- From: William Lefkovics [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, July 30, 2002 3:11 PM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: RE: Software Compliance OT Why didn't you answer their emails? If they were tracking it then they would know I am not running it. The product might be fine but their sales tactics blow... -----Original Message----- From: Ely, Don [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, July 30, 2002 3:47 PM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: RE: Software Compliance OT Sounds like some trash talking to me. I'd be scanning my network and looking at logs to see if they actually were "tracking" it. I'd also send them a nasty-gram telling them to FSCK OFF due to the fact that they sent me this lame a$$ email. I was somewhat surprised at the tone...especially the part about avoiding further legal action. I evaluated the software on a test network and removed it when I found it didn't fit what I was looking for. Is it my imagination or are sales guys getting really pushy lately...sorry for the OT post, just had to rant.
