Yeah... I'm pretty educated on the band (history, members, etc). So the "one-uping" doesn't surprise me much. But that is still funny about competing w/ the Stones.
Did you get any pics w/ the band? IIRC, the guys weren't really that into the hard partying scene... One night I ended up in their dressing room for the after show party. I won't give details of that night. They were a very spoiled group of folks though. It was a non-stop party 24 hours a day. The rotunda behind the stage is massive. Floyd had 7 semi's of gear parked there. They decided they wanted a Hawaiian Luau. So they got a spot to park the 7 semi's and covered the whole rotunda in green indoor outdoor carpet. Brought in a catering company to fire up a giant Luau complete with dancing hula girls and all that stuff. Next day Waters decides he wants to take up golf. So they tear down the Luau and set up an indoor driving range and a big miniature golf course. I will give the managers and handlers credit. They could make the most amazing stuff appear in just a couple of hours. There were a huge number of people working there all the time. Easily a 100 doing stuff. I heard them say a bunch of times 'But the Stones got that on their tour we want it too'. It was a giant one upmanship with the Stones who had just been through town.
