The source code for kernel 2.2.1 is included on the cd image. I noticed a
file (apps/kernel2.2/INSTALL) that says this:
Linux 2.2.1 kernel installation
-------------------------------
In order to install your new 2.2.1 linux kernel on your Mandrake system,
run X/KDE and type:
------------------------------
rpm -Uvh initscripts-3.80-2.i386.rpm
rpm -Uvh modutils-2.1.121-3.i386.rpm
rpm -Uvh net-tools-1.49-2.i386.rpm
rpm -Uvh procinfo-15-1.i386.rpm
rpm -Uvh util-linux-2.9-8.i386.rpm

What do these new packages do?
Will it still be ok to run 2.0.36 with them installed? 2.2.1 without them??
Any clues?
