That customer actually called back. He had messed with the
configuration and gotten it so torqued, that he decided to reinstall.
So I tried the mem= option. It didn't not work. I do not know exactly
which mobo he had.

It would not boot. It hung at various points during rc.sysinit. It
occassionally made it as far as mounting swap.
I didn't help him beyond getting it to boot.
