hdparm -d1 /dev/hdX as root where X is the letter of your drive. And put it in some suitable place, like /etc/rc.local although I remember Tom suggesting a better spot some time ago. By the way, if you want to know whether it's turned on to begin with, drop the "1" (hdparm -d /dev/hdd). Miark
