Fail2ban does not send email notifications by default. If you want it to send you email notifications, you need to change the "action" setting for the jails you want emails from, or in the "[DEFAULT]" section if you want emails about all bans for all jails that don't have their own "action" setting overriding the default. For example, you could put "action=%(action_mw)" in your sshd jail configuration.
See the "Action shortcuts" section in the default jail.conf for more info about different actions including the ones that generate emails. You need to set the "mta" setting to "mail", not "mailx" or "postfix". The only thing this setting does is to select between the "mail-*" actions and "sendmail-*" actions in /etc/fail2ban/action.d. Since there are no "postfix-*" or "mailx-*" actions in that directory, setting it to "postfix" or "mailx" won't work. P.S. Just to nitpick a bit, the "mta" setting is misnamed. A command used by an end user to submit an email message for delivery is not an MTA, it's an MUA (Mail User Agent). Alas, this is a common mistake. jik ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Check out the vibrant tech community on one of the world's most engaging tech sites, Slashdot.org! http://sdm.link/slashdot _______________________________________________ Fail2ban-users mailing list [email protected] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/fail2ban-users
