There was nothing wrong with his performance but he's such a 
recognizable character that it takes you out of the movie.   Some actors 
have taken to playing themselves outside of their own films and that 
works though it wouldn't of course in this one.  I had the same problem 
with Ben Affleck in "State of Play."  It was Ben Affleck playing a 
senator whereas Russell Crowe loses you in his character in that film.  
But saw a trailer for a film last night that Affleck is in and may be a 
perfect fit for him (actually didn't notice it was him immediately).

BTW, the original "Inglourious Bastards", the Italian film is available 
I see at least at Redbox though was probably re-released to coincided 
with Tarantino's film.  Tarantino only used the title but it might see 
if he was inspired by any other parts of that film.
