Just a "the view from Europe" post, one reflecting comments I've heard from dozens of English and Spanish and French viewers of America embarrassing itself over the attempt to "reform" its basically non-existent health care system.
The "non-system" has won. You lost. And you're trying to blame that loss on the only person who has gotten you even *close* to having a real health care system in American history. It's not his fault you lost. You lost because of the law of inertia. For decades you in the United States have sat back and gorged yourself on the meme of "We have the best lifestyle in the world," while allowing the lobbyists and corporations who really run your country to gorge themselves *on* that lifestyle by picking your pockets. Now that times are tough you've awakened to discover that your pockets are empty and *have* no health care other than that you've been complacent enough to pay ten times more for than what it really costs, you want "reform." And, being American, you think that should happen just *because* you want it. Not gonna happen. The same people who stole your right to adequate and universal health care from you in the first place are going to keep you from getting it now that you've finally figured out that you need it. And there is very little you can do about that other than bitch and whine and blame. The problem is *not* all the vested interests who are spending millions of dollars to keep their fellow Americans from having adequate health care. They are not new, and they are doing nothing new. The problem is that you're still letting them do it, as you have for decades now. You're getting *exactly* what you deserve for being so fucking complacent, and for so long. And you seem to feel that people in other countries, people who *weren't* complacent, and who *didn't* allow private interests to rob them of the right to adequate health care, should feel sorry for you. Sorry...we don't. We think that *any* bill that attempts to "reform" health care in America will be a miracle, that those who pushed it through are miracle workers, and those of you who are doing nothing but bitching and whining and blaming should be fuckin' grateful for that miracle if it occurs. You certainly don't deserve it.
