Maybe you are sure of your opinions and views and so there is no need
for revision. Others, myself included, welcome a challenge because it
offers a chance to examine ones previously held beliefs and see if some
revisions may be in order.

I am not sure what is wrong with defending ones position. I mean I
have to assume that one keeps an open mind. But I don't equate
defending ones position with trying to sell something.

It seems that you often take offense at others opinions judging by the
harsh, and often belittling reponses you make.

This is where I think yourself open to some criticism. I guess you
could say that someone who seems to watch a tremendous amount of
television and movies might have a pretty empty life. Just sayin.
