I think the best TM rumors (or myths) has to be one of 2 things:

1. The whole creation of "Heaven on Earth"

2. The whole "getting enlightened in 1 lifetime" concept

First of all, both myths have to ignore certain axioms which are the basis of
Hindu thought, as well as many eastern teachings. We are supposedly in a cycle
of birth and death and some of us are further along than others. The only way
we could truly create Heaven on Earth is if we only accepted older and
enlightened souls into this world. So what would we do with the younger souls?
Not allow them in? Put them in exile? Meditate them to perfection in one
lifetime?

This world is much like a 3rd grade classroom. We may be able to implement
some policies and teachings that increase the orderliness of the place, but
you're still going to have to wait for the children to become adults before you
can expect them to move out of the house and become truly self-sufficient full
grown people.

It's the same with enlightenment. We could by all means help this world out by
spreading certain teachings. But at the end of the day, a young soul is a
young soul, and some will just take a lot more lifetimes to get to a point
where they create no problems.

Overall, heaven on earth and enlightenment in one lifetime, to me, was a fairy
tale designed to keep people committed for a longer time. I am convinced we
have a much longer way to these goals than the TMO would like us to believe.
