No game. Your reponses are simply confusing to me. First you say I am casting slurs on africans, then you say that such terms used to be slurs, but are not now.
I am intertested in not offending anyone or using offensive language. I am simply asking is using the term "ooga-booga" currenty a slur on any group of people or religion? If it is I will refrain from its use. If it is not, I fail to see the validity of your first accusation. But regardless, I appreciate the heads up on the terms past meanings -- I was unaware. As appearently many on the list have been. The term has been used repeatedly. --- In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, "authfriend" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > I'm quite sure you understand my point, so > I'm not going to play your games. > > --- In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, anonymousff <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > wrote: > > > > > > "Ooga booga" is a slur on Africans? > > > > > > Sure, it's a crude burlesque of African language > > > used in tribal rituals. > > > > > > "Mumbo-jumbo" is another derogatory term derived > > > from African religion; the original refers to a > > > religious figure among the Mandingo. > > > > > > Both terms have lost their references and become > > > ordinary slang, but they were originally slurs. > > > > > > So if they are not slurs now, how is a current use of the term a > slur > > on africans, now? > > > > > > > > Its an often used phrase use > > > > here and other lists for para-rational spiritual stuff: > siddhis, > > > > shakti, ME, etc. Why after all these years, of the term being > > > > regularly used, did you decide to wait until now to inform us > that > > > > the term is actually a slur on Africans.
