Same thing with detecting collision of lyrics.  The spacing algorithm
considers it a collision any time a lyric syllable hangs over to the next
note.  If there's no lyric under that next note, it's probably not actually
colliding, and it will look better to space it tighter and let the lyric
hang over a little.

I think the next big step for Finale's spacing is to start paying attention
to the vertical position of items.  Some elements are OK to overlap
horizontally so long as they're sufficiently distant vertically.  I'm sure
it's a complicated problem and it won't come out perfectly the first time,
but they could make a good start at it and then maybe fine tune it down the
road.  It can be an option under Lyric Spacing Options, so that at the very
worst you can resort to the old settings and be no worse off that we are
now.
