What  composers do is one thing, but what engravers do is another. One can argue about 
the pros and cons of various engravers' "aesthetics"--a word apparently meant to 
deride--but the fact is all of them exist for the sole purpose of rendering the music 
easier to read. If you take nothing else away from a reading of Ted Ross's book, you 
should take away that communication of the composer's intent to a performer in the 
most efficient and clear way was his overriding concern. Thus, you seem to be deriding 
what you say you believe in most.
