Well, dang...I just never noticed that feature. But you're exactly right--it can be done for only a single portion (whatever is highlighted) of the string of text in text created with the text tool. It doesn't have to be a complete word; even one character of a word can be moved--whatever is highlighted. Positive numbers move the highlighted part up, negative ones down.
