Great ideas - however, (correct me if I'm wrong) , one can only open/print
Finale files in Acrobat Reader if you have the complete version of the
program, which inlcudes Acrobat Distiller 4.05 (for conversion).

There are other ways to produce PDFs, eg Ghostscript. Works very well.

For the interested, the Ghostscript port for Mac (MacGSView) is available here:

You can export pages as EPS files and then use MacGSView to convert them to PDFs. It runs in Classic, so if you wanted to skip a step and just print from the viewer you'd run into the same printer issue that got you to this point. Also (rather unfortunately), it seems that you cannot combine several EPS files into a multi-page PDF, so you'd have to convert and print each page individually.

You guys might want to check out ESP GhostScript. Go to "Get Mac OS X Software..." from the Apple menu and then type "ESP GhostScript" into the Search Downloads area. It is the official GhostScript for OS X because it merges with the CUPS printing system. Once installed you can configure it from a built-in web pages at <http://localhost:631>. You may run it from and print all standard file types from the command line. I have been using an AppleScript for PostScript (.ps) to PDF activities and could make it available on my site if there's a need but you can just print the .ps files directly. I have found ESP GhostScript to be much more reliable and faster when printing large PDFs and it can even print some that choke Acrobat Reader.

A companion product is the Gimp printer driver distribution (which has printer drivers for hundred of printers).

Gimp-Print 4.2.2
ESP Ghostscript 7.05.5
