Has anyone besides me noticed the errant math in this statement? To leave a 3/4 inch margin on 9.5 x 12.5" paper, the image area can be no larger than 8x11". (That is, you need to leave 3/4" on *all four* sides of the sheet.)

Several months ago I pointed this out to the MOLA contact on their website, but apparently they have not fixed it.

Of course, orchestra librarians have never claimed to be mathematicians. Another reason comb (or spiral) binding is unacceptable for parts is that the comb or spiral gets crushed inside folders, and generally makes for troublesome insertion and removal from folders.

A friend of mine was commissioned by the Philadelphia Orchestra, and part of the contract was quite detailed specifications for the parts. They had to be printed at a certain percentage, with certain margins, on a certain size and weight of paper, using foldover/staple binding. Apparently the librarian there is a stickler about this stuff, and apparently for good reason. I've heard the musicians will waste a lot of rehearsal time with comments and questions about the parts if the guidelines aren't met. Thirty seconds of a Phila Orch. rehearsal is a pile of money.
