Orchestras will have a default decision which they will use for such
divisi passages, either dividing by desk and having desks 1/4/7 take
part 1, or counting individual players (so the front desk have parts 1 &
2, second desk parts 3 & 1, third parts 2 & 3, etc.) The latter was the
arrangement used for the performance of the Shostakovich which I'm
thinking of.
