I'm glad to have Steve's comments as a student. From our experience here (and I may have submitted this earlier), I can say that when we required Finale, about 85% of the students I had hated it, about 10% got along with it, and only about 5% (including some jazz majors) actually learned to use it and actually control it. Now that we're requiring Sibelius, I'd guess that 80-90% of our students are actually using it and are functional with it.

Now just to be completely honest, I have to admit that we have never actually taught classes in either Finale or Sibelius, although students are introduced to its use in several classes starting with Freshman theory. That's something I do intend to bring up with our new Department Head.
