Hmm, I did not give the pertinent error message.
"The specified device handle is invalid" shows when I load Finale, but when I
try to click on a measure in Speedy, I get:

"The specified device is already in use. Wait until it is free, and then try again."

THAT is the message that I remember from the old days if I tried to load Finale on top of Cakewalk. But i cannot find a midi program already loaded.

I don't recall seeing the music keyboard icon in systray you mention. I don't have one now, whether or not I run Finale.

Thanks for any help,
Ray H

From the beginning of the Readme after installing Fin 2009:

--------

Congratulations on your purchase of Finale 2009 for Windows!

IMPORTANT: Read this document before you begin working with Finale 2008 and print a copy of it to keep with your Finale information.

Very interesting -- so much for proofreading, checking and double-checking everything before going gold.

How about the program itself?

Read my other messages. I actually installed 2009 hoping it might resolve my MIDI input - Proikeys keyboard problem I've had for several weeks, but there is no change there. If someone could possibly help me find a solution, I would be glad to report back on 2009!

I've been following those other messages, since I, too, have a Prodikeys keyboard but so far have only run into one problem with it which happened when I first installed it.

It seems that WinXP has a limit on the number of midi input devices, and I already had that limit filled, so I was getting no input from Prodikeys. Simply removing one of the currently-unused midi-input devices solved that problem for me.

I hadn't mentioned that before because it sure sounds as if your problem is something else. I believe you can remove the little applets that installed with Prodikeys with no negative effect, if you wish.

When your computer starts up, is there a small music keyboard icon appearing in the Systray? If so, then something indeed is using Prodikeys right from the start. On my computer, that little piano keyboard icon appears only when I run a musical application such as Finale2008 or Sibelius or Band-in-a-Box.
