The examples used in the previous competition featured guitar music, if I recall correctly. My preference would be to use a 19th century piano and voice example, some 2oth century ensemble music, and perhaps a third example using a jazz or commercial music style.

The examples used were:

1. Sebastian Ochsenkuhn, Insbruck, ich muß dich lassen, arranged by Hans Dagobert Bruger, Edition Simrock , 1923. Original line length (second system, not shown here) is 191 mm. Original staff size is 7 mm.

2. Arthur Gray, Les Néréids, for piano, Bryant Music Co. 1918. The original line length (second system) is 168 mm. Original staff size is 6.5 mm.

3. Nicolò Paganini, Theme from his Introduction et Variations sur "Nel cor piu non mi sento", edited by Carl Guhr. Editions Schott. From Paganini's Kunst die violin zu spielen. Originally published in 1829 (date on Guhr's preface) this is obviously a late 19th century engraving from the Schott Mainz engraving office. Original line length is 205 mm. original staff size is 6.75 mm.
