I don't know if this is relevant for Mac users, but with Windows 8, I was having problems with my LaserJet 5000 UNTIL I changed the print processor to WINPRINT instead of the HP print processor. There must be some Mac equivalent, I'd think. On Win 8, I went into the printers area, called up the 5000's properties, and changed the print processor. I have NO idea what that menu looks like on a Mac, or how to access it, but you Macsters do know, so it might be worth messing with to see if you can get everything out of the 5000 that it has to offer. The change in OS from Win 7 to Win 8 hosed my 5000 until I discovered that fix, and almost every subsequent "update" to Win 8 has hosed it as well, and I've had to reset it every time.
