I've seen this problem, or similar, in Fin 25. Whatever causes the lyrics disappear seems random, but usually I can restore them with Undo, provided I go back far enough. You might also try restarting Finale or even the computer. (I sometimes have to restart the computer for playback issues.)
But your problem sounds like a simpler issue. Are you certain that "Set Current Lyric" is set to the same verse/chorus/section number as you are expecting? There is some strange behavior around this feature and it is worth checking.
