i hope this isn't bad... here's what i did: i did do a fink remove xfree86-rootless, in fact i did fink remove xfree86-base, too. then i had fink install xfree86-rootless... nothing changed, i.e., it did not alleviate the problem. right now i'm in the middle of fink rebuild xfree86-base, then i'll do rootless -unless i give that up and go your way. > Also just out of interest what happens when rename the XDarwin folder > to XDarwin.app??? first off, i cannot simply change the name, i have to do that as root, and i did. i changed it to XDarwin-temp, closed and refreshed the windows -no icon. i changed the name back to XDarwin.app (in Show Info), no change. btw... when looking at the folder in Applications it is named XDarwin, Show Info>Name says XDrawin.app. > > and when you do a 'fink remove xfree86-rootless' is the XDarwin folder > being removed???? yes. Ted p.s. i am ALL ears, as i run out of weekend. :( > Matt > > On Monday, May 13, 2002, at 09:29 AM, <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > >> ok all... >> >> i've removed the April Dev Tools and installed (w/update) the Dec Tools >> and >> restarted as per the instructions. >> >> i did a Fink remove and reinstalled xfree86-rootless. >> >> guess what: >> everything is EXACTLY as it was before: >> a) a folder, not an app in my Applications folder >> b) the very same errors reported when i do: startx -- -rootless >> >> 2002-05-12-19:24:08.782 XDarwin[305] No Info.plist file in application >> bundle or no NSPrincipalClass in the Info.plist file, exiting giving up. >> xinit: No such file or directory (errno 2): unable to connect to X >> server >> xinit: No such file or directory (errno 3): Server error. >> >> HELP? >> >> Ted >> >> on 5/12/02 6:10 PM, Matt Stephenson, typed: >> >>> I think either the second or third message tells you how >>> >>> If you must remove it, there is a perl script to do so: >>> >>> /Developer/Tools/uninstall-devtools.pl >>> >>> Matt >>> >>> On Monday, May 13, 2002, at 07:54 AM, <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: >>> >>>> aha. >>>> >>>> anyone know how to uninstall April Dev Tools?
