I did as you recommended, and fink list xfree86 now returns this:
Information about 1300 packages read in 1 seconds. i system-xfree86 2:4.3-2 [placeholder for user installed x11] i system-xfree86-dev 2:4.3-2 [placeholder for user installed x11 development tools] i system-xfree86-shlibs 2:4.3-2 [placeholder for user installed x11 shared libraries] xfree86 4.3.99.16-2 Free X11 implementation for Darwin and Mac OS X xfree86-base-threaded [virtual package] xfree86-base-threaded-shlibs [virtual package] xfree86-rootless-threaded [virtual package] xfree86-rootless-threaded-sh... [virtual package] xfree86-shlibs 4.3.99.16-2 Free X11 implementation for Darwin and Mac OS X
Is this how it should look?
<AKH> That looks fine. If apt-get or "fink install" ever want you to install the xfree86 package, say no and post the output on the list, in case there are dependency problems that need to be ironed out.
You should be OK to try to install dlcompat-shlibs again.
Thanks again- Joel
