Nope, you can use it with XDarwin from the current xorg and xfree86 
packages, too.

I've never noticed a particular speed difference between using X11 
terminals and Terminal.app.  Personally, I tend to use Terminal.app 
because I like the option to have unlimited scrollback.  Maybe one of 
the X11 terminals offers that, but I haven't found out about it.
