So, .info has nothing to do with help pages and .patch has nothing to do
with optional patches downloaded from the gp homepage.

Do you think that it would work for the current CVS version if I just use
a copy of your info and patch files?

I got another hint from comp.graphic.apps.gnuplot: The libgd consists of
the lib files themselves and so-called header files (*devel) that contain
some function definitions or so, and are only needed for the build
process. They say I wouln't have to re-install the libraries but only
the header files. For some reason the *devel-files are no longer visible
in /sw/lib. Unfortunately they seem to expect that everyone already knows
everything about how to do all this. Do you know how I could get these
header files and whether this may finally make Gnuplot use the libs?

The way you suggested seems a bit too dirty for me since Gnuplot is
nestled within the Fink tree and not in a local folder.

Still I am wondering what makes the difference between Tiger and Leopard
that GP works fine on the former but only without the libs on the latter.

Best wishes,

Ingo
