If you don't already have it installed, you might want to grab the 
latest Xquartz that supports 10.5/powerpc from macosforge.org .  That 
replaces the system's X11 on 10.5 and provides some significant 
improvements (though on powerpc it does weird things to the appearance 
of buttons in GTK+2 apps, at least under some circumstances).
