My fink is upto date.
But Martin is correct.
I was using apt-get to install the binary distrib.

I was able to easily find and install the binary fftw package and grace
works now.
But, as Martin says "In an ideal world", it would be nice if there is a
dependency list that I can look up to see which packages I need.

The quickness of the binary install makes it very attractive as compared
to having to compile it locally.
