Dan, The new emacs package is one that I made, even though I'm not the emacs maintainer. We've had trouble with emacs21 compiling and running ever since the switch to the gcc3.3 compiler, but I discovered that these problems had been addressed within the emacs project itself. So I grabbed a CVS snapshot and packaged it up for fink.
I'm not an emacs expert, so I appreciate that people are posting problem reports as they occur. Not sure if I'll be able to do anything about them, though!
