Why _only_ NFS? That's not true today. Since 2.5 it's possible to place shadows on windows network drives too. There was a number of requests for such feature, and in 2.5 it was implemented. Shadows are alive and supported, and suggestion to drop them is not correct. What about multiple files database - here I agree, it's time for that support to be gone.
