If you can be more specific about the problem you see in the current
1.4 design, that would be very helpful.

This part of the design has not changed: if the Firebug status bar
icon is orange, then Firebug is active and if you hover over the icon,
the tooltip will give you details. If this was sufficient before, it
should also work now.

The concerns raised by people on this newsgroup lead to several
significant changes in the design. Again if you can point to specific
problems we can discuss whether our changes were sufficient. In
addition your concerns may be caused by bugs we don't know about
rather than problems with the design.

I'm glad the old activation model worked for you. Honestly we did not
put additional work in to activation primarily to piss you off.
Working on the activation system is a the very bottom of my list of
things I want to do. But we thought we could make it a lot better for
most people. Hopefully it won't be a lot worse for some, but any
chance in a complex tool will make some people unhappy. Since you like
what we did in earlier versions, I hope you will give 1.4 a chance.
