Hello Amy,

It sounds to me like this is a touchy subject for both sides. Maybe a
referee is necessary to help both sides work together? It would not be the
first
time a corporation type of atmosphere called for such a thing, this is what
mediators are for.

I am not on this committee, but I can see that both sides feel they have
given their all and neither side feels appreciated for it. However, I do not
believe the answer is to narrow down the committee to exclude the original
members
until certain rules and guidelines are established and accepted outlining
acceptable conduct, and certain members fail to cooperate with said rules and
guidelines. THEN would be the time to start eliminating members.

I have to admit I am a bit floored at some of these circumstances! The NFHR
is growing steadily and the committees are going to become more diverse with
this growth. Most people are very good at working within a structured system,
although it might take an extra person or two to work beneath the acting chair
to keep things running smoothly.

This is not a committee to give up on, or to cause such anguish, or to
eliminate members from unless they do not follow the rules. Of course, this is
just
my opinion!

Amy, you are one of our BOD members. You WILL feel like you are attacked on
occasion. This is a fact of your position. This is not something that needs
to be a negative situation, however, but can be turned into a position
resolution. You have to remember that it is highly possible that YOU are not
what is
being attacked, but the situation in and of itself. As you are a BOD member,
it is up to you to figure out a solution that is conducive to getting the
project done as well as keeping the majority of the members pleased, coupled
with
staying within the guidelines of the NFHR. A hard task, no doubt, but you
can do this and do it well, I have no doubts.

There will also be times where your decisions ARE attacked. If this is the
case and it happens with a majority of members, committee or otherwise, then
maybe it is necessary to relook the situation over objectively, even with a
mediator if necessary. There is nothing wrong with doing this, it is a simple
part of "management".

And yes, for whoever said it... I am a bit defensive here. I spent the ENTIRE
time this large committee was active acting as a referee and trying to soothe
offended people. NOT my idea of fun or productive. My and several other
people's input regarding this document was totally ignored out of hand. And
now I'm
under attack for STATING MY OPINION and defending myself??>>
