I'm soooo very sorry that the work that a whole bunch of us did on the
Suggested Code of Ethics didn't measure up to what YOU were looking for. I
am publishing the last suggested draft RIGHT HERE IN PUBLIC. Let the

Practices
Introduction and Purpose
These guidelines are presented with the awareness that ethics cannot be
legislated, and that most individuals intend to do what is right without
them. The purpose of these guidelines is to set forth principles of practice
that the Norwegian Fjord Horse Registry would have all of its members, and
those associated with Norwegian Fjord horses, adhere to as they strive to
accomplish the Registry's goals and purposes so clearly stated in the NFHR
bylaws. These suggested guidelines present the minimum in recommended
ethical practices; how best to conform to these practices is better left to
the educational efforts of individuals and regional clubs.
Objective and Practices
In keeping with my membership in the Norwegian Fjord Horse Registry, and my
dedication to encourage its stated purposes, I hereby will try my best to
adhere to the following practices: To become educated in the fundamentals of
owning, breeding, training, using, and exhibiting the Norwegian Fjord horse.
To ensure that all horses in my care receive adequate food, water, shelter,
companionship, and medical care. To promote the Fjord as a versatile horse.
To adhere to the rules and bylaws of the NFHR and to always direct my
actions towards the best interest of the Fjord breed.
Breeding
To be well grounded in the Norwegian Fjord Standard and to have a basic
understanding of what a good genetic match is before attempting to breed. To
ensure that no mare or stallion be used for breeding until they are both
physically and mentally mature. To keep the breed pure and never allow or
condone crossbreeding which is forbidden and punishable by the NFHR. To be
extremely discriminating when considering the acceptance of mares for
breeding to my stallion, or my mares to other stallions, giving special
consideration to those who accept these guidelines and always consider breed
type, temperament, conformation, and health. To geld any colt that is not of
breeding quality, and to never place a foal until it is nutritionally
independent of the mare.
To register all stock with the Norwegian Fjord Horse Registry, to keep
complete and accurate records of all breeding, foaling, and pedigrees. To
issue a bill of sale to buyer at time of purchase, and promptly turn in the
registration certificate to the NFHR for transfer to the new owner. To
always notify the Fjord registry of any status change, either gelding or
death.
Sales and Showmanship
To follow good business practices; disclosure and ethics in sales, provide
breeding contracts, and to honor all agreements. To ensure that all
advertising is factual. To assess whether or not the buyer has the
facilities and knowledge to properly care for a horse. To guarantee the
health of animals at the time of sale. When evaluating a horse, I will be
influenced only by their quality and performance. To practice good
horsemanship, and to consider competitors as a challenge, not a threat. To
always extend the friendly dispositions of our Fjords, channeling their
sense of fair play into our actions with others.
