I hope half the things that have been said here are with tongue in
cheek.  If we have a social strata with the "backyard horse owner" some
kind of a lesser person then I think we better recheck our values.
Where have our breeds come from in the first place but from mixes that
man had little/ or nothing to do with in the beginning.  The Morgan, the
quarterhorse etc. were created by selective breeding. Seattle Slew (sp)
was a backyard horse by the industry standards and one of our best
racing horses with prize get.  Hopefully the "big" breeders just meant
one could be educated in what you are doing if you can or want to.  An
attempt to control the world is a bit euphoric?  No?? I also look at the
results of human intervention, i.e. the dog world where well known
breeders have ruined a breed.  Look what has been done to the quarter
horse by the "big players" to where they look like dejected hang head
miseries.  Ahem.  Jean Gayle Wash. state.
