I have a neighbor who had a stallion at one time and only had two strands of electric wire keeping him in when she first got him! I was riding my geldings and this so called pussycat stallion was not acting friendly. I was frightened to say the least. I knew that the stallion could very easily go right through the two strands, electricity and all. My neighbor wasn't happy with me that I phoned and told her of my concern and that if the stallion wasn't properly penned I would have to call the sheriff. She did take care of the situation and I didn't have to call the sheriff. But believe me, I would have called if she hadn't taken proper steps. It was so long ago, I can't remember for sure, but I think I called the sheriff station to find out what could be done about the situation. I was at a dressage show years ago and a stallion, tied to its trailer got loose while a young girl was riding her test on her mare and the stallion tried to mount the mare while the girl was on her horse--endangering the girl with the possiblity of her getting hit with one of the stallions front hoofs--very scarey!! In California, no one under 18 years of age may ride a stallion at a horse show (for a very good reason, safety). I believe USDF and USEF do not allow stallions to be shown by riders under 18 years of age. Even some horse shows will state that stallions are not allowed at that particular show. Who ever is putting on a horse show can make such a rule. Safety is a big concern and the show organizers may want to make sure everyone has fun.
