Bill,

I tried this also and although I successfully installed N8VBs multiport
driver build 114 (com 4/com 5) I found that HRD responded slowly at best: it
takes forever for the frequency to show in HRD. However, I may not have set
the CAT options in SDR correctly. What I did is in HRD (which I used as a
test) I selected Kenwood TS-2000 through com4 with auto detect speed and
unchecked the flow control check boxes (as per the instructions on your
website). In SDR CAT setup I set the CAT port to com5 and I played around
with various baud rates, from 4800 to 57600, but no difference. I left the
other com port variables at the SDR default and enabled com port. Then it
became really mystifying - what the heck is "PTT Bit Bang"? All I know is
that I can neither select com4 nor com5 as it tells me these are not
available. But as I didn't try using PTT from HRD, I don't think this could
be the issue. Any ideas?
I don't think it's my system as it's a P4 3Gb/s with 1G of RAM - when
powerSDR is running it's ticking over at a lazy 3-10%, even with HRD up.

Not sure if this will help or not, it sounds like it should have worked.

You need to read a little further down on Phil's page -- take a look @ the
entry for "May 14, 2005" on Phil's page - that's pretty much where the
details on vCOM start.

Basically, you need to edit the .INF file to select com port nums if you
want to use something other than 4 or 5. If you already have something at
COM4 or COM5 you must do this of course. This needs to be done before
installing the driver

When asked which driver to install you probably want the objfre one, it
does not have the debugging stuff the checked one does

After rebooting look in device manger, under multiple port serial adapters,
it should show N8VB's vCom driver without any red or yellow decorations.

Tell HRD to use one of the ports, tell SDR to use the other. You need to
be running one of my experimentals (1.3.5, 1.3.7) with the HRD fix, or need
to be running Flex 1.3.8 -- 1.3.7 may work, I forget exactly which driver
the HRD CAT fix went into.

Regards,

Bill (kd5tfd)
