MS will soon release its (so called) final release which is labeled SP3.
This has already been released to government and some commercial agencies.
As you are probably aware there are so many problems within Vista that
government agencies will not incorporate it into any networked facilities.
Even Vista test computers (stand Alone) are few and far between. I have a
brand new never opened Visa Premium OS and although I've looked at on a
standalone computer, will not use this on my home LAN. Definitely not
interested in fighting use with SDR or any station control SW. Not sure if
MS is going to spend much time trying to fix some of the many Vista
problems. I do know they are working on a new package code named Windows 7.
This reminds me of the ME episode. (Another piece of c..p) All in all this
is another reason to give a lot of attention to Linux. The nice thing about
Linux is there are stable emulators that allow you to run MS products
(Office etc), if you choose. For those of you who are afraid of making the
change, UBANTU is a great place to start. Very user friendly and all GUI
driven, all free! Also, with Flex Radio currently programming SDR in
Erlang, I suspect we will soon have SDR available for at least the 5000
series. Personally, I'm looking forward to that!

Microsoft is holding firm to ending retail sales of XP at the end of
June of this year. They will allow OEMs to bundle it with "low-cost
computer systems". They have, however, promised to support XP
(releasing new bugs, eh, fixes) thru June of 2010.

As you may know, when you buy Vista you can "downgrade" to a license
of XP and I am not sure what that policy will mean in terms of end of
selling XP (can you still downgrade after June 2008?).

I know that since I am doing a ton of software testing on Vista but
its so unstable I cannot use the testing machine regularly without it
blowing up. Oddly enough, the only place I have Vista stability is
running it under Apple Boot Camp or in VMWare.

running PowerSDR. Vista's "enhanced" security features, UAC and the
administrator group not really having full administrator privileges seem to
get in the way of a lot of things. The common work around is to disable the
new security features, but doing so is not recommended by either Microsoft
or FlexRadio.
