Along those lines, there is a huge difference in noise level among 
various models and makes of fans, all with identical electrical and 
air moving performance. Bear in mind that the acoustic power in the 
noise is a tiny, tiny fraction of the overall mechanical work being 
done, so efficiency isn't really a factor.  It's more things like the 
number and shape of blades in comparison to the shape and number of 
things in the air stream (e.g. 4 blades and 4 way symmetrical grilles 
are bad...).. all those little vortices being shed off the spinning blades..
