Although some of the 1394b (Firewire 800) cards are supposed to be compatible with 1394a devices (like the FLEX-3000), the three PCI based I have tried with XP were not. I received similar behavior with one of the cards (it had a TI chipset) and the other two just failed to see the FLEX-5000 hardware at all (The FLEX-5000 and FLEX-300 have the same Firewire controller). The Belkin card shown is actually a 1394a card (Firewire 400) as opposed to a 1394b. What I would do is get a 4 to 6 pin Firewire cable at some place like Best Buy and try the one on the motherboard.
