I just received my F5K today. It arrived in fine shape and I have it all
setup. I noticed a couple of things that surprised me. One in particular
is I have a PC audio amp plugged into the pwr-spkr jack. This is working
fine for speaker audio. But, when I plug headphones into the headphone
jack, I expected the audio out the powered speaker jack to mute, but it does
not. Is there some setting for this or is that just the way it is.
The other thing that surprised me and is a little disappointing is how loud
the relay is when I key in CW. I find this a little distracting.
But overall, the radio is excellent. I find the QSK to be better than what
I expected. And I am only running a 2.2 ghz PC with 1 gig of memory and no
dual core.
One other question - In PowerSDR, how do you center the receive frequency in
the panadapter display? Mine stays quite a bit to the right side of center
no matter what I do. I am running 1.18.0.

Correction - D-STAR is NOT Proprietary. It is an open standard developed
by the JARL.

Yes, it will have tone support in an upcoming version of the software.
D-Start is proprietary.
You should be able to interface a TNC to the radio. I suspect that you
can do it virtually too, but the AWG software will have to change to
support separate sound card instances for TX and RX.

I'd like to know if the forthcoming vhf/uhf add-on for the 5000 will
support
repeater operation and if so, how will pl tones be implemented.
Also, are there thoughts about using the new add-on with the digital modes
such as D-star, APRS, etc.
Thanks very much
Jim
