Dear Joe, I sincerely appreciate your frustration with the dominance of Microsoft. We often feel the same way. However, as a business we have to place our finite resources where they provide the best return. Here are a few facts regarding PC market share for the first part of 2009.
According to IDC, Apple's market share from 7.4% in 2008 to 7.6% for the first quarter of 2009. http://www.macworld.com/article/140029/2009/04/pcshipments.html According to NetApplications, GNU/Linux now accounts for 1.02% of computer desktops. http://itmanagement.earthweb.com/osrc/article.php/3818696/Linux-Desktop-Mark et-Share-Greater-Than-One-Percent.htm That leaves about 92% for Microsoft's desktop market share. Unfortunately, the economics do not work to undertake the huge and expensive effort that would be required to convert PowerSDR(TM) to native Mac OS. However, a number of customers are successfully running PowerSDR under Bootcamp for both FLEX-5000s and FLEX-3000s. There are customer supplied articles in the knowledge base that cover how to do the installations. Let me also clarify that FlexEdge(TM) is not an "out of sight portion of the reflector." FlexEdge is available to all who want to participate. FlexEdge is the leading edge developer reflector for new software development and system configurations. It is where all the cool new stuff is going on. We separated the site to minimize confusion between officially released and supported configurations and those that are still experimental. Overall it has been a very successful change. I trust that helps in understanding FlexRadio's position on the matter. We will continue to evaluate how we can be of better help to those who want to use the Mac platform. (TM) -----Original Message----- From: flexradio-boun...@flex-radio.biz [mailto:flexradio-boun...@flex-radio.biz] On Behalf Of Joe Rodriguez Sent: Thursday, August 06, 2009 12:25 PM To: flexradio@flex-radio.biz Subject: [Flexradio] UNSUPPORTED... WHY BOTHER? Dear Mr Systems Administrator & List Manager, For the last year and a half I've struggled with the thought of purchasing a Flex radio. But the problem is WINDOWS... and I've have had the good sense to convert to Apple OS X and the computer problems have been reduced by over 95%. Bootcamp under OS X .5 has stabilized the use of Windows XP for the remaining applications that are required by this house hold. The marketing staff at Flex have been supportive as they can about the Windows/ Mac dilemma and there seems to be support for those of use that refuse to subscribe to your Windows or Vista and God forbid "7". So In your humble opinion we should be vanquished to an out of site portion of the reflector not to disturb your Vista discussions. Not supported like "DRM" discussions that seem to be OK with you. Well count me out of the reflector, Count me out of the Flex radio plans Timmy. Maybe the rumors of a prominent Japanese radio company planning and SDR radio can bring you to your senses. KD4INV Folks, As per the FlexRadio Users Reflector description (http://www.flex-radio.com/Support.aspx?topic=Reflector_Description ), any discussion regarding the operation of FlexRadio's products on unsupported hardware, such as the iMacs needs to be moved to the FlexEdge Reflector. Thank You. -Tim --- FlexRadio Internet Systems Administrator & List Moderator W4TME _______________________________________________ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flex-radio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flex-radio.com/ Message delivered to ger...@flex-radio.com _______________________________________________ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flex-radio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flex-radio.com/ Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
