Jim,

You asked, "In your opinion when will the 5000 be gone effectively from the
scene?"

I am not that good at seeing into the future, but I can say the following:

1.) PowerSDR is still going to be developed since it is still needed for
the FLEX-1500 & FLEX-3000. As long as PowerSDR is an active development
project, the FLEX-5000 will still be improved.

2.) PowerSDR development will not go away until Flex discontinues both the
FLEX-1500 & FLEX-3000. That is not going to happen in the foreseeable
future. To quote someone who is in the know, "The FLEX-1500 is selling like
hotcakes." Also Flex needs a product in the $1500-$1700 class. Therefore
the future of both radios seems to be assured.

3.) Even when PowerSDR development comes to an end, the FLEX-5000 will
remain a useable radio as long as you can maintain a computer that can run
PowerSDR.

So, the answer to your question hangs on your definition of "effectively"
and on factors (such as PC availability) that are outside of Flex's control.
I would guess that it is many years away.
